The Manchester Winter Carnival came to a close on Sunday, February 24, 2002 with the Winter Carnival 4 Mile Road Race and Recreational Walk. There were 47 participants who enjoyed the sunshine and mild temperatures we had for the race. All of the participants came in within 22 minutes of each other with leader being Justin Albin from West Townsend, Vermont, followed closely by Emily Bryans from Schenectady, New York.
The Manchester Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank our sponsors, Hand Motors, Bank of Bennington, Vermont Country Store and r.k. Miles for their support and dedication, also we would like to thank all those who participated for coming. All of the participants received a tee shirt and there was food donated by Bagel Works, Mrs. Murphy’s Donuts, The Village Fare, Black River Produce and Leader Beverage a Pepsi Cola Co. This year’s race would not have run as smoothly as it did without the efforts of our volunteers, Anita Gabolski, Dot Harrington, John Pelton, Coleen West, Chip Winner, Dena Lane, Alex, Abry, Jack Quinn, Shona Stone and Becky and Len Kotler. The Battenkill Valley Runners Club was a wonderful support to our race providing a time clock, coffeepot, signs and expertise in all areas of putting together a road race.
We are looking forward to seeing all of the participants again next year and to add to the attendance. Thank you all for making this year’s Winter Carnival race a success.
