Statistical Analysis Overview

Analysis of the average finish time, for both men and women, appears to indicate that age is of little factor in the finish time for this particular race. Men did show small increase in the average finish time with age. Further information about the runner’s, including number of previous marathons, could further help break down this data.

The interesting point shown by the data appears to be the percent qualifying for Boston by age. For both men and women, the percentage qualifying for the Boston Marathon showed a marked increase with age. This could be attributable to several factors that are not taken into account here including the number of racers in each age group.  Another possibility that could lead to this type of result may be the flat, fast nature of the course.  So, if an older runner is looking for a marathon in which to attempt to qualify for the Boston Marathon, they should definitively consider the Mohawk-Hudson River Marathon.
